The field guide is intended for bushwalkers and others who might stumble across something curious and want to learn a little more.
This book written and published by Joy Clusker and Ray Wallace with beautiful photography by Joy, is a field guide to the fungi of the Bendigo region with an emphasis on the dryer areas north of Bendigo.
Joy Clusker and Ray Wallace worked on 'Fungi of the Bendigo Region' for over three years, scouring forest floors between Mount Alexander and Kamarooka after deciding there was not enough information on local fungi.
Ms Clusker said the ecological importance of fungi has long been overlooked and poorly understood. Fauna and flora surveys as well as environmental impact statements have often ignored fungi.
It covers 284 species and a further ~200 yet to be identified.
Printed locally in Bendigo, the book is designed to fit in a backpack.
